Abbey Nature Preserve

Abbey Nature Preserve is under the stewardship of the NC Coastal Land Trust. The 63 acres in the preserve will not be directly impacted by the development.  More information about the NC Coast Land Trust can be found at  https://coastallandtrust.org/lands/abbey-nature-preserve/.

The majority of the 'Old Farm Road' which extends from the plantation fields by the Intracoastal Waterway up to Poplar Grove plantation, which includes the 65 acres of trails currently leading to the preserve, will be changed forever.  These frequently walked trails with moss covered trees are designated to be clear-cut.

Not only does Old Farm Road provide the path of the trail head today, it is also the northern most point of the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor. Only a small section of the corridor will remain intact.

Abbey Nature Preserve will be managed by Pender County and remain in the NC Coastal Land Trust.  Abbey Nature Preserve is open to the public from dawn to dusk.
